Alan Hunt
Alan Hunt is an artist turned zoologist who came to the notice of the art world through brilliant portraits of animals ranging from tigers to meerkats. He has won a number of accolades during his career including Awards of Excellence on four occasions by The Society of Animal Artists’ USA and the Best Artist on Show for three consecutive years by The Wildlife Art Society’s UK. Alan Hunt had also been the lead artist at five exhibitions in the US, and in 1998 was the first non-American to be voted on to the “American Wildlife Art Hall Of Fame”. In 1999, he was chosen as the Artist of the Year at the Florida Wildlife Art Expo.
His fascination for art was first revealed when Alan was gifted a box of paint by his mother at the age of eight and coupled with his love for animals he started out painting birds and other animals. Consequently, having studied art at Middlesbrough Art College, he went on to study zoology at Leeds College and Bristol University. At the age of 18, Alan Hunt held his first exhibition in his hometown of Redcar. Since then his success was immediate leading to worldwide exhibitions of his work in museums, galleries and public and private collections.
He had always been a wildlife enthusiast and a conservationist who addressed burning environmental issues especially in the third world countries through Hunt`s work. His passion for art and the environment urged him to travel across the world teaching and leading study trips on both wildlife painting and environmental conservation. Today, Alan Hunt artwork attract huge interest at major auctions including Sotheby’s, Bonham’s and Christie’s and he generously contributes to conservation projects worldwide.
