Caroline Shottton

Caroline Shotton’s controversial artwork often ridiculed and criticized by art critics in the past have now become ever so popular among art lovers and are sold out within weeks of its publication.

Some of her popular artwork including “On the Mooove”, “Hooof Hearted” and “Sh*t Happens” fall into the humour category and she shows off her sensitive side through paintings such as “So in Love with Moo”, “Kids” and “Mooon River”.

Her humour packed titles featuring cows with a startled expression are so unique to her and she hand-embellishes all her limited editions making them as close as possible to the original. Her style and approach to painting have evolved over the years and she now creates more colourful and bold creations experimenting with new mediums.

This is evident in the painting “Have I Got Moos for You”, where she has painted the cows on a background of a collage done by using newspaper clippings including ones criticising her work! That’s Caroline Shotton for you with her witty sarcasm and brilliant creativity.

Caroline Shotton

Caroline Shotton`s artwork often recognised as a humour art, She is a well established British artist whose work of art is generally influenced by both surrealism and impressionism. She has been in love with painting even as a child and as a young artist she has been highly influenced by the old masters and realism, constantly striving for perfection. However her approach to art evolved significantly after attending Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design where Caroline studied various other movements of art and techniques which she now incorporate in to her work. Shotton has been fortunate to have spent her childhood in the outskirts of London which exposed her to many London galleries and the open countryside scenery at the same time, securing her a diverse stock of inspirations to work with.

After college Caroline Shotton has worked as a freelance artist during which time she was commissioned by businesses throughout the country to undertake various projects from large abstracts to intricate murals.

This turned out to be a whole new experience for her as she was made to experiment with new styles and techniques which she would never have thought of using had Shotton been painting alone in her studio.

Caroline Shotton is also a big fan of classical music which to date she cannot do without while engaged in what she does best.

News

In collaboration with Bliss, charity for Special Care Babies, Caroline painted two boxed canvasses themed “Handle with Care” and “Special Delivery” inspired by her own personal experience with the charity. These were on sale for a limited period from 14th July to 30th September 2008 donating £25 from each piece sold to the charity.

Personal Life

Inspired by the open countryside, it is not surprising for Caroline Shotton to be obsessed with cows as they are such lovable creatures often seen grazing the fields of English countryside, something very familiar to Caroline from childhood. Having lived in the outskirts of London she also took advantage of the London galleries which inspired her a lot in becoming an artist.  She studied at the Central Saint Martins College of Fine Art where she learnt about various movements of art and techniques which helped her to explore beyond her conventional approach which was previously influenced by realism. After college she has worked as a freelance artist during which time she was commissioned by businesses throughout the country to undertake various projects through which she gained much experience and exposure to new techniques and styles which she attributes in her artwork today. She is now one of the highest selling fine artists in the UK.
