Debra Stroud
My first creative attempt, at the age of 2 and a half, was to skin off the nursery freeze that my Mummy had applied to the wall minutes earlier.I have always had a creative mind and as a kid I used to send my inventions to varied toy manufacturers. One of my designs was for an all enclosed sledge encompassed in a kind of gyroscopic pod so you stayed in a stable position as you hurtled down a snowy hill. The company 'Triang'- liked my design and sent me a kind and heart-warming letter and a doll's cot! Creativeness was much inspired at my first college in Guildford. Music, art and drama were a regular activity.
Sadly , the highschool closed when I was 9 and successive Colleges failed to nurture the creative spirit. It was later on at the age of 14, that I was galvanized by Guildford School Of Art and their Photography course. I took armfuls of info home from the careers fair and enthusiastically told my folks. My Father expounded 'No way'! So I lost heart and left college.
Much later I took myself to Varsity to sit my examinations and went on to read Psychology at Sussex School . I then left Sussex to study Philosophy in London. Artistically, my history has been geared more towards photography. Painting has been a natural evolution for me and I find I am in a position to express different qualities. My complete family are creative and inventive, so I've had a sound foundation. I was born in Guildford and have travelled far and wide, having a selection of truly diverse roles.
I have worked as a contract shutter-bug, as a courier to Long Island, an executive in sales and promoting, and in Noise Pollution for a local authority.
