Drew Darcy
Born in Shrewsbury in 1976 I'm the eldest of twin boys. Being the child of a doctor and a nurse, I usually felt in safe hands right from the beginning. My creative flare might have been passed on from my mother's side.
She was one of a family of 10 youngsters.
Music and art was a central part of being raised in Dublin. My granddad was from 5 generations of tailors and trained in Saville Row to become a bespoke tailor. He had 3 shops in Eire , one of which was in historic Kilmainham, Dublin. On my father's side, my granddad was a business designer and talented draughtsman. Thus the fabric of the artist was woven! I can remember drawing from a young age, and was initially introduced to grease painting at Stonyhurst Varsity , Lancashire. I rejoiced in the undeniable fact that I could make my indelible mark on my own canvas, like the great painters before me. Masses of hours were spent in the 'Art Room', where I learned plenty of the methodologies I use today. I was given a great liberty in my art classes and achieved grade A's in GCSE and A-level Art & Design.
Moving to Birmingham, I successfully finished a BTEC Countrywide Diploma in Art & Design at Bourneville Art University . In the time waiting for the paint to dry, I revealed that music and song writing was another creative output for me. I formed a guitar band and spent a couple of years performing all over the United Kingdom and Eire . Music is still an abiding keenness of mine.
However I noticed myself continuously drawn back to the canvas, and in 2002 I threw myself into my art and dedicated all my time into developing my very own unusual style that I am hoping will at last lead me to stand proud of the present leading artists of the Earth. After successfully exhibiting and selling my work in some thoroughly chosen galleries round the country, I later had the chance to show 5 new pieces at the Autumn Fair in Birmingham 2004. This was my chance to get a first hand reaction from art collectors, studios and plenty of the bigger publishing homes. I was overpowered with such a great reply to my work and this was a massive boost to my confidence.
