Govinder Nazran
It is a very thin line that separates good from evil and innocence from malevolence in the artwork of Govinder Nazran and it is best left for the viewer to define and connect with the idea depicted in his abstracts.
The common characters that you meet through his paintings; evil cats, wide eyed dogs that look petrified, just to name a few are the representation of evil and the innocent as he perceives himself living in a garden of good and evil where optimism serves as the best armour in his quest for survival.
The inspirations for his artwork are based on his experiences throughout his life and the outcome is a combination of how he sees the world around him and his individual self.
Being the naturally shy person that he is he finds it difficult to communicate with others. However, he works wonders with basic shapes and lines to convey his expressions through his paintings and he breathes his spirit into his art to let his true personality show through.
Govinder Nazran started his career as a graphic designer and has studied graphic designing from 1980 to 1983 in Bradford in the North of England. Further, he went on to obtain a Higher Diploma in Graphic Design, specialising in illustration, from Lincoln Art College and moved to London to work as an illustrator for children’s books. Having worked there for 6 months he moved to Cambridge as a freelance illustrator and subsequently as a designer for a greetings card company in his home town of Saltaire in West Yorkshire.
Before entering the fine art industry, he was employed as a photographic art director, directing fashion shoots all over the world. In 1993 he bid farewell to this hectic career and after a span of five years he took up painting and approached Washington Green with his portfolio. Since then he has published a little more than 40 of his designs including sculptures and boasts of a huge fan base from all corners of the world.
